Rawalpindi: Imran Khan founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf said that he is aware of those responsible for recent attack on party spokesperson Raoof Hasan.
Day earlier, Hasan was attacked by group of trans-persons in federal capital. He was struck in face with blade.
Following attack, perpetrators managed to flee scene with ease. PTI leader was transferred to hospital for medical treatment. He was later discharged.
“We know who is behind attack. This incident proves system is being run through use of force,” Khan said while talking to media at Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail. “Our patience is running thin. We will take to streets in protest,” Khan warned.
He acknowledged country’s fragile economic state as reason for previously avoiding protests, but emphasised that government would be responsible for any damage. “We refrained from taking to streets due to economic conditions. If any damage [to economy] occurs now, they will be responsible,” Khan asserted.
Referring to ongoing National Accountability Bureau law amendments case, Imran said that he has “Match” in Supreme Court on May 30.
He criticised restrictions on PTI activities, noting, “Everything in country is being controlled through fear. PTI is not even allowed to hold rallies.”
Regarding economic situation in country, Khan challenged current leaders to lead by example. “Shehbaz Sharif talks about tough decisions. Tough decisions start with leaders making sacrifices themselves,” he said, urging Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari to repatriate their overseas assets.
Khan called for transparency in legal proceedings, suggesting all cases be broadcast live. “Nation should know who real thieves are. If you want to proceed even with treason case against me, I’m ready. I’m even ready for gallows,” he declared.
Expressing satisfaction over PTI President Pervez Elahi’s release, Khan remarked, “I’m happy for Pervez Elahi. He would have been released sooner if he had distanced himself from party.”
Khan concluded with criticism of US interference, stating, “US is allowed to overthrow governments, but I am not allowed to expose their conspiracies.”
On other hand, Imran Khan moved Supreme Court seeking permission to appear in ‘personal capacity’ in National Accountability Bureau amendment case. Sources told that Imran Khan has sent written request to Chief Justice, seeking permission to appear before SC in person in case.
Request has been forwarded to Supreme Court through Adiala Jail administration. Apex court has fixed May 30 for hearing of NAB amendment case.
