LAHORE: In an interview to Sky and Al Jazeera later in evening, Imran said that he was “Mentally prepared” for his arrest. “There is huge [police] force outside not just police but they’ve got Rangers there too which is Army. It seems as if Pakistan’s biggest terrorist is holed up inside,” he added. He alleged that government wanted him out of election race since it was “Petrified” of his party’s popularity. “According to all opinion polls, we will sweep upcoming polls and that is why they want me removed from scene.”
Meanwhile, Imran Khan made an impassioned plea to his supporters, urging them to stand up for their rights and “Continue struggle” even if he is arrested or assassinated. PTI Chairman’s video message was released on social media as police arrived at his Lahore residence to arrest him. Party workers reportedly hurled stones at police personnel as they baton-charged crowds of supporters gathered outside Zaman Park in anticipation of his arrest. Addressing his supporters in video, Imran said that authorities believe his arrest would lead to nation’s indifference. “My fellow Pakistanis, police are outside waiting to arrest me. They believe that if Imran Khan is put in jail, nation will fall asleep. You must prove them wrong. You must show that this nation is alive and kicking,” he said.
Imran went on to emphasise importance of Pakistani nation, which he stressed was formed on principles of ‘La illaha Illalah’ (there is only one God).
“This nation is Ummah of Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him) and it was formed on principles and slogan of La illaha Illalah. You must step out and fight for your rights and true freedom,” he said. He called on Pakistanis to stand up for their rights and true freedom, stating that he has been fighting this battle all his life and would continue to do so.
However, he warned that if something were to happen to him, his supporters must carry on fight and never accept tyranny of “Thieves” who are making decisions for country, particularly one man who holds reins of power.
“God has given me everything, and I am fighting this battle for you. I have been fighting this battle all my life and I will continue to do so,” he said.
