Lahore: Amid ongoing crackdown and exodus of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leaders after May 9 mayhem, party Chairman Imran Khan has insisted that current political situation is not big crisis for him.
“You think it is big crisis for me, I don’t,” said Imran Khan while speaking during an interview with BBC. Speaking about upcoming general elections in country, Khan said his position will only be weakened if he loses vote bank.
“Firstly, we will fill in all positions of people who have left,” he said, adding, “So have younger blood, newer people coming in. They’ll probably get arrested, too.”
Khan also said that it is possible that he will be put in jail and added that he is watching whole scenario and waiting. “Idea that I would give in to this or I will accept this and keep quiet about it, it’s not going to happen.” He also questioned how Pakistan will benefit by getting him out of race. “I wonder what they want to achieve from all of this.”
Talking about May 9 riots that led to PTI workers damaging public properties and storming military installations almost across country, Khan said, “I have never talked to any party worker in way that would lead to incidents like this.”
He added, “Term red line means country where there is no rule of law and people are picked up.” He said that if “I am put in jail then there will be reaction”. PTI Chairman also said that elections would take place this year in any case. “We will campaign for this election no matter what.”
He expressed astonishment as to how establishment was allowing economic meltdown of country by supporting incumbent regime.
“With complete disregard for rule of law, this fascist government far worse than General Musharraf’s martial law, has one point agenda which is to crush PTI.”
He said that depreciation of Pakistani rupee against dollar would result in hyperinflation. “Meanwhile, Pak economy is going into free fall. Dollar is at Rs 315 in open market, while for non CNIC holders rate is between Rs 320-325. Gap between official rate and open market rate is Rs 30 per dollar,” he mentioned. However, he questioned how establishment is allowing country’s economic meltdown.
“Question is, how on earth is Pakistani establishment allowing country to head towards complete economic meltdown?”
He claimed that billion dollars of PDM leaders are lying in foreign accounts. Devaluation of rupee is making no difference for them.
