ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan challenged jurisdiction of Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in PTV, Parliament attack case.
Legal team on behalf of Imran Khan filed an application under Section 23A of Anti-Terrorism Act in ATC, in which jurisdiction of court has been challenged.
Advocate Naeem Haider Panjutha argued before ATC Judge Raja Jawad Abbas Hasan that case is not of terrorism court, therefore, it should be transferred to concerned court.
Panjutha said that peaceful protest was held on which provisions of terrorism were imposed. He furthered that protest was held within constitutional framework, adding that case does not constitute terrorism provisions.
After hearing arguments of PTI chief’s lawyer, court issued notice seeking arguments on application from prosecution and adjourned hearing of case till February 9.
On August 31, 2014, in an attempt to topple then PML-N government, PTI and Pakistan Awami Tehreek workers marched toward Prime Minister’s House and police were ordered to thwart their march. Subsequent clashes between protesters and law enforcers resulted in deaths of three PAT workers. Hundreds of others, including both demonstrators and policemen were wounded.
