Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan said that new military leadership had realised that “Experiment of regime change has failed”. “I’m sure amongst new military leadership there is realisation that this experiment of regime change has gone wrong,” he said in an interview with US broadcaster, Voice of America.
“Leading principle of balance [of power] is that elected government that has responsibility, which people have mandated through their vote, must also have authority,” Khan added.
Responsibility and authority, he said, cannot be separated and hence system cannot work if “Two things are not vested in same individual”.
“If authority lies with Army Chief, [but] responsibility lies with prime minister, no management system works.”
While responding to question regarding his relationship with military as premier, PTI Chief said that all policies of military in Pakistan depend on one individual. “Military [in Pakistan] means one man, Army Chief. So, whole policy of military vis-a-vis their dealing with civilian government depends on personality of one man.”
PTI Chief Imran Khan lashed out at former Army Chief General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa, claiming later was calling was shots while he was at receiving end of all criticism as Prime Minister. “He was a super king. He was above everyone. He was controlling NAB and no one could be held accountable without Bajwa’s nod,” he said while addressing supporters via video link from his Zaman Park residence here.
