KARACHI: There is lack of proper monitoring by Ministry of Maritime Affairs Islamabad, audit team of International Maritime Organisation revealed in its report.

During audit, it was found that strategy for implementing IMO instruments and improving performance of Maritime Administration was approved in March 2020 and was sent to Director General Ports and Shipping.  However, it is observed that after approval of referred strategy many years have gone by but no oversight has been made by Ministry Office to assess that to what extent approved strategy has been implemented and how much targets set in strategy have been accomplished. Therefore, audit team recommended that designated responsibility needs to be assigned at Ministry Office for periodic reviewing of implementation status of approved strategy. Role of internal audit needs to be strengthened in this behalf. Ministry office needs to strictly evaluate performance of regulating bodies responsible for ensuring compliance of approved strategy. Role of Director IMO/ IA needs to be proactive rather than passive, report added.
