IMF ‘seeks’ report on state-owned firms’ losses

Karachi: International Monetary Fund (IMF) has sought report from Pakistan on losses incurred by state-owned enterprises, sources told. During ongoing talks between two sides as part of an economic review, Finance Ministry asked visiting Fund delegation for time till December 2023, according to sources.
International lender was presented with preliminary report on losses to government institutions, sources added, but report was ‘rejected’.
Meeting also reviewed performance of Central Monitoring Unit established regarding losses of national institutions. Government has assured Fund that it will provide new report soon.
Earlier to this development, International Monetary Fund demanded tax collection plan of Rs 6670 billion till June 2024 from Pakistan. An IMF review mission reached Pakistan to review country’s economic performance during first three months of current fiscal year-from July to September.
Lender demanded tax collection report of all sectors in its projection report.
