IMF 'meet' with political parties, opposition: IMF resident representative calls on PPP finance team

ISLAMABAD: IMF ‘seeks assurances’ from Pakistan’s political parties on commitment to new SBA International Monetary Fund took on board Pakistan’s major political parties, including ruling coalition and opposition, as it seeks assurances that objectives and agenda under new Stand-By Arrangement will be implemented ahead of country’s national elections.

“IMF staff are in process of meeting with representatives of major political parties, including PML-N, PPP and PTI to seek assurances of their support for key objectives and policies under new IMF-supported programme ahead of approaching national elections,” said Esther Perez Ruiz in statement.

IMF Executive Board is set to take up Pakistan’s SBA announced after staff-level agreement last week in its meeting on July 12.

In this connection, International Monetary Fund Resident Representative, Esther Perez Ruiz called on Pakistan Peoples' Party finance team including Syed Naveed Qamar and Saleem Mandviwala to discuss standby agreement with Pakistan. Finance team agreed to support programme in larger national interest, Minister for Commerce, Syed Naveed Qamar said this on his official twitter account.
