Lahore: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has termed signing of $ 3 billion stand-by agreement (SBA) with International Monetary Fund (IMF) positive development but at same time it raised questions over coalition government’s economic plan to revive ailing economy.
Reacting to development, PTI hit out at Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz-led ruling alliance saying, “Government is celebrating [IMF deal] as it is receiving 3 billion dollars in charity,” Shaukat Tarin and Hammad Azhar during talks with media persons said.
Main opposition party spokesperson further said that people will now carry burden of this deal in form of further rise in inflation.
“Same people [incumbent rulers] in PTI government called IMF agreement anti-state,” statement added.
PTI also took jibe at government over increase in diesel price saying rate was increased by Rs 7.5 per litre despite buying “Cheap oil” from Russia.
Communique said electricity shortfall will also increase with increase in its prices. “Undoubtedly, IMF programme is positive development, but what lies ahead,” PTI questioned.
It went on to say that PDM government lacked an economic plan to steer country out of crisis and added that incumbent rulers’ priority is only to borrow loans from friendly countries and global lenders.
