IHC suspends PTI Chairman’s sentence in Toshakhana case

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) suspended PTI Chairman Imran Khan’s sentence awarded to him in Toshakhana case. Two-member division bench of IHC announced decision which was reserved.
Court also ordered authorities to release former Prime Minister from jail on bail after submitting surety bonds of Rs 100,000. Islamabad High Court Chief Justice announced short verdict. Detailed judgment will be released shortly.
As ECP lawyers Pervaiz completed his arguments, court reserved its ruling in case. Later, High Court announced that verdict.
Divisional bench headed by Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Aamir Farooq and comprising Justice Tariq Mehmood Jahangiri released short order. Verdict was reserved a day earlier after completion of arguments from respondents.
IHC in its short verdict, ordered to release of PTI Chairman Imran Khan on bail from Attock Jail and remarked that it would give reasons for suspension of sentence in detailed verdict later.
PTI Chairman challenged cessation of his right to defense by trial court in Toshakhana case in Islamabad High Court. Petitioner pleaded to High Court to declare trial court order void and restore his right to defence in case. PTI Chairman also requested court to immediately take up his petition.
On the hand, on August 26, team of Federal Investigation Agency investigated PTI chief in Attock Jail in US cipher case. Former PM was questioned about alleged disappearance of cipher. FIA cybercrime team headed by Deputy Director Ayaz investigated former Prime Minister.
