The Islamabad High Court (IHC) scheduled the hearing of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's appeal against his conviction in the Al-Azizia reference for a future date.

Nawaz Sharif had previously been convicted in both the Avenfield and Al-Azizia references by the accountability court. However, the IHC recently acquitted him in the Avenfield reference.

In the Al-Azizia case, he had received a seven-year sentence along with fines of Rs1.5 billion and US$25 million. In 2019, the Lahore High Court (LHC) suspended his sentence based on medical grounds, allowing him to travel to London for medical treatment.

An IHC two-member bench led by Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb is set to review Nawaz Sharif's plea on December 7, with notices issued to concerned parties for the hearing.

On November 29, the IHC acquitted Nawaz Sharif in the Avenfield reference, as announced by a two-member bench comprising IHC Chief Justice Aamer Farooq and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, overturning his conviction in that case.
