ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) ordered Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to hold Local Government (LG) polls in Islamabad on December 31.

According to report, IHC Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir pronounced decision. IHC accepted petitions against decision to postpone Local Body (LB) elections.

Earlier decision was reserved on petitions against postponement of Local Body elections in Islamabad. IHC judge has also declared ECP’s notification of postponing Local Body elections of Islamabad null and void.

A new crisis has developed for ECP after IHC decision as there are only 11 hours for conducting local body elections in Islamabad.

Election Commission of Pakistan has declared government responsible for not holding Local Body polls timely. ECP filed written reply in Islamabad High Court with regard to postponement of LB polls case. It has been said in reply that federal and provincial governments are responsible for holding LB polls in time. ECP while giving proposal for not making change in law and making amendment in Article 140-A of Constitution and Election Act-219 before election has said it is serous in discharging its constitutional obligations to hold LB polls.
