IHC judges’ letter: Govt announces to form inquiry commission

Islamabad: Following letter surfaced related to judges of Islamabad High Court (IHC), government has announced to establish an inquiry commission aims to investigate issues raised in letter.

In press conference held by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar and Attorney General Mansoor Ali Shah, announcement was made regarding letter, primarily addressed matters pertaining to tenure of former Chief Justice, penned by IHC judges.

Commission, to be formed under Inquiry Commission Act, will entrust an impartial retired judicial figure with inquiry. In presser, Azam Nazeer Tarar stated that Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa also endorsed formation of judicial commission to investigate matter.

Highlighting distinction between Parliament and High Court, Azam Nazir Tarar reiterated that judges and politicians have their respective duties and responsibilities.

Moreover, Tarar emphasized that judges are diligently performing their duties and leaving matter to judiciary, reaffirming independence and integrity of judiciary.

As government officials, Tarar stressed that it is their responsibility to conduct thorough investigation into contents of letter.

He emphasised that if claims mentioned in letter are found to be true, they will be duly addressed and reflected in Terms of Reference of inquiry. Additionally, Tarar underscored importance of addressing any inaccuracies or false claims mentioned in letter with seriousness and diligence.

Affirming role of Chief Justice as head of Supreme Court, Tarar expressed understanding that both Supreme Court and High Court are functioning within their constitutional mandates. Furthermore, Tarar acknowledged his personal responsibility as Prime Minister to ensure timely action in addressing concerns raised in letter.

It was decided that matter would be brought before Cabinet for further deliberation, with establishment of commission comprising impartial retired personalities to investigate issues raised in letter.

Acknowledging sacrifices made by Pakistan Army in safeguarding national defense, Tarar reiterated government’s commitment to upholding justice and integrity in resolving issue.
