ISLAMABAD: Islamabad High Court (IHC) instructed joint investigation team (JIT) to determine whether a FIR under anti-terrorism laws could be established against PTI's Chairman Imran Khan or not regarding his threatening remarks about a woman judge and police high ups. Chief Justice Athar Minallah observed that although PTI Chairman had used inappropriate words during his speech but Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA)'s clauses couldn't be applied on this.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Saman Raffat Imtiaz heard plea seeking to quash FIR against former Prime Minister Imran Khan. At outset of hearing, Chief Justice remarked that court had asked Imran Khan to join investigation and had also instructed investigating officer to tell whether provisions of ATA could be applied or not. Special Prosecutor Rizwan Abbasi told court that Imran Khan had appeared before investigation team last day.
Chief Justice noted that Imran Khan appeared in front of police and was interrogated. Was there any attack made during this time, he asked Special Prosecutor and said don't make issue of terrorism like this. Chief Justice Athar Minallah said that many police personnel were martyred in incidents of terrorism. He remarked that we were here to protect judge as contempt of court proceedings were going on in this matter. Court adjourned further hearing of case till September 19.
