IHC annuls ECP order on vote-recount in 6 Karachi UCs

Karachi: Islamabad High Court (IHC) annulled Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) order on recount of votes in six union councils (UCs) of Karachi, as reports reaching here.
IHC Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan pronounced decision on Jamaat-e-Islami’s (JI) request to stop recount.
JI lawyers Qaiser Imam and Hasan Javed Shorosh and ECP officials and lawyers of other candidates appeared in court.
After hearing arguments, IHC had stayed the implementation of ECP’s orders regarding recount in six union councils of Karachi until next hearing. Subsequently, court then issued notices to candidates of Karachi’s six union councils (UCs) on which it had stayed recount of votes. Earlier on March 22, Election Commission of Pakistan ordered recounting of votes in six Union Councils of Karachi.
Jamaat-e-Islami filed a plea against alleged rigging and irregularities in Local government polls. Following plea, ECP directed recounting of votes in six Union Councils. JI had challenged result of six UCs which include Mominabad UC-3, Manghopir UC-12, Gulshan-e-Iqbal UC-1, Orangi UC-3, 7 and 8.
