IG Sindh admits police negligence in Perween Rahman murder case

KARACHI: Inspector-General Police Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon admitted negligence by police in high-profile Perween Rahman murder case. Rahman, renowned urban planner and director of Orangi Pilot Project was murdered in drive-by shooting on her car at Banaras flyover few minutes after she left her office for home on March 13, 2013. She was killed as result of land dispute.
IG said, “In Perween Rahman murder case, there was negligence by police. We are going to appeal against decision.” IG Nabi said that police was trying to remove “defects from investigation system” and also attempting to make appointments in every department on permanent basis. Last week, Sindh High Court nullified life-imprisonment sentences, handed over to accused individuals for Rahman’s murder by anti-terrorism court following insufficient evidence. Following court’s verdict, Rahman’s family decided appeal against acquittal. Memon spoke about Safe City Project in Karachi.
