RAWALPINDI: Awami Muslim League Chief Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed said that everyone's attention was focused on Supreme Court as it would either announce contempt verdict or hold national elections.
Sheikh Rasheed said via his twitter account that government allies' meeting saw breakdown and glaring division among PDM. PPP, MQM and BAP felt remorseful for choices. He continued by saying that public has lost faith in majoritarian parties. He declared that since court's ruling had been violated, either election would now be held or contempt judgment would be made public.
"In day or two, severity of punishment would be decided and all eyes would be on Supreme Court." He asserted that judiciary knew how to perform its duties and would ultimately have to see that its rulings on constitutional issues were executed and respected. "If elections aren't held, caretakers will have to return home. They are not simply there for transfers, promotions and postings," he claimed. Elections couldn't be held all at once, according to Sheikh Rasheed, unless National Assembly was disbanded.
According to him, government was required to announce date for assembly's dissolution and general elections. He claimed that in its efforts to hold onto power, government had cut itself off from both populace and outside world.
