Islamabad: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Senator Barrister Ali Zafar claimed that Supreme Court would revoke decision within 24 hours if government slapped ban on his party. His statement came after top Minister said government was mulling banning Imran Khan-led party following violent May 9 riots, in which military installations were also attacked.
PTI Senator who fights majority of cases of Khan told journalists outside Supreme Court in Islamabad that vandalism is an “Individual act” and based on this, “No party can be banned”. “In past, attempts were made to ban Jamaat-e-Islami. Supreme Court, in its earlier rulings has set precedent that government cannot ban any political party.”
Explaining further, PTI Senator said there are different laws that deal with party that resorts to violence and incites hate.
“If PTI is banned, then I believe Supreme Court will strike down that decision within day,” PTI Senator said. Zafar added, “Nobody is following” law in country as he lamented that despite securing bail, his party’s leaders were rearrested.
“This is lawlessness. We are filing petition against this and court will take notice,” he added.
