During interview with former cricketer Shoaib Akhtar, Ali Azmat shared surprising backstory of recording process for major hits like ‘Sayonee’ and ‘Jazba Junoon.’
According to Azmat, these iconic tunes were recorded in small, dark and claustrophobic bathroom within modest studio on Tariq Road, Karachi.
inger humorously added that he struggled to breathe during recording sessions due to confined space and distinctive aroma as bathroom was even covered with cardboards. Azmat didn’t shy away from expressing his views on Pakistan’s music industry during interview.
He highlighted challenges faced by artists, stating that industry still resembles “Cottage industry” due to lack of major record labels and ample support for artists to grow. In light-hearted manner, he referred to himself and fellow artists as “Bathroom singers.”
Unexpected twist to creation of one of Pakistan’s greatest rock songs has left many in an existential crisis, grappling with contrast between grandeur of anthem and its humble origins.
