‘Hold KP polls on October 8 in light of fresh terrorist wave’, governor urges ECP

ISLAMABAD: In fresh development Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Haji Ghulam Ali urged Election Commission of Pakistan to hold the general elections in province on October 8, same date electoral watchdog has announced for Punjab, keeping in mind rise in terror activities.
Governor in letter to Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja said it would be in “Best public interest as well as in interest of state” if polls were held in October instead of previous date that he had suggested May 28. ECP’s decision to withdraw an earlier announcement for Punjab elections came after security and financial bodies refused to back commission during upcoming polls. Governor noted that recently, fresh wave of terrorist activities has been taking place in northwestern province on daily basis. Citing further incidents, he said terrorist attack took on police station in DI Khan followed by search operation by Army, resulting in martyrdom of three army soldiers on night between March 21 and 22. Governor in letter said that since ECP has postponed election date for general elections of Punjab to October 8, it is also suggested that same date should be appointed as election day for general elections in KP.
