ISLAMABAD: National Commission on Status of Women (NCSW) Chairperson Nilofar Bakhtiar said that history will never forget criminal silence of world’s leading human rights leaders on genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.
Addressing International Conference on ‘Women in Islam: Status and Empowerment’ jointly organised by OIC and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Jeddah, she said Israel’s ongoing attacks in Gaza Strip were huge political and humanitarian disaster.
NCSW chairperson said Palestinian people were facing indescribable pain. More than 7,700 Palestinians had been killed and over 19,740 injured and that number was increasing. About 2,400 or 66 percent were children among total dead, she added. Nilofar said schools and hospitals were being bombed blockade (of Gaza Strip) has been tightened.
She said Israeli occupation meant enslaving Palestinian people, with brutalities, illegal detentions, imprisonment and extrajudicial executions. She said Israel’s continuous occupation of Palestinian territories and mistreatment of Palestinians was question mark on “Sleeping conscience” of powerful people of world.
She criticised international community for not taking adequate measures to stop illegal occupation of Palestinian territories.
She regretted that some member countries of United Nations tried to Justify Israeli aggression. How could indiscriminate bombing of entire population (of Gaza) be called defensive operation with vague aim of destroying Hamas, she questioned. Israeli bombardment in northern part of Gaza had resulted in widespread destruction, she added.
Nilofar said Israeli government had shown its fascist face to whole world, but international community had failed to provide support needed to end conflict between Israel and Palestine. She criticised Western countries for their continued support for Israel despite its human rights abuses.
