HEC conducts workshop for public sector universities on financial autonomy

Karachi: Higher Education Commission (HEC) under Higher Education Development in Pakistan (HEDP) project conducted three-day extensive capacity-building session for public sector universities on financial autonomy, according to reports reached here. Around 18 Registrars, Treasurers, and allied staff of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) from Punjab, Sindh, AJ&K and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa attended training held at Kohsar University (KU), Murree. Thematic areas of training included features of framework for financial autonomy, better financial management, improvement in governance of public sector universities and implementation of framework.

HEDP has already conducted six such capacity-building sessions across country in which more than 150 participants have been trained. In his opening remarks, Vice Chancellor Abbottabad University of Science and Technology Dr. Malik Mujaddad-ur-Rehman, chief guest of event emphasised need for improvement in financial resource generation of public sector universities in wake of dwindling federal government grants and mounting expenditures due to inflation. Pre-and post-assessment showed marked improvement in understanding and skills of participants on financial autonomy. Activity is led by Financial Management Specialist, HEDP Khawaja Zahid in collaboration with financial experts who were engaged to conduct different sessions during training.
