Karachi: Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast another monsoon system will bring rain to Sindh, including Karachi from tomorrow onwards.
According to Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfaraz, a low-pressure system is still present south of Sindh’s coastline in Arabian Sea which may lead to rain in coastal areas. New monsoon system, entering Sindh from Indian Gujarat on Tuesday, can cause heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in Sindh. ‘Heavy rains may generate urban flooding in Karachi’.
In its earlier advisory, PMD said that a depression had developed in Arabian Sea which is likely to move west along Makran Coast. “Due to this weather system, monsoon currents are continuously penetrating in southern parts of country,” read statement by PMD. Another low pressure (LPA) is likely to approach Sindh on August 16, it added. “Rain-wind/thundershower (with few heavy falls) is expected in Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir from August 14-16 with occasional gaps,” said PMD. Likewise, Met office said widespread rain-wind/thundershowers (with scattered heavy to very heavy falls) are expected in Sindh and Balochistan in aforementioned period with occasional gaps.
Heavy rains may also generate urban flooding in Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Hyderabad, Dadu, Jamshoro, Sukkur, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad and Mirpurkhas till August 18.
