Quetta: Gwadar Police arrested Haq Do Tehreek (HDT) leader Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman outside court in Balochistan’s port city over killing of policeman.

Heavy police contingent was present outside local court, which arrested three others along with Rehman days after HDT leader said he would reach Gwadar to surrender before law enforcers.

HDT leader is nominated in first information report of death of police constable, Yasir who was killed by unknown assailants on November 27 during protest.

In statement, police said bullet hit constable in neck and he died on spot. Following this, Balochistan Home Minister Ziaullah Langove ordered police to register case against HDT leader.

Haq Do Tehreek protesters in Gwadar have been demanding reduction in number of check posts, easier border trade and total end to deep-sea fish trawling in sea next to Gwadar.

In response, Balochistan Bar Council condemned arrested and said HDT leader had to appear before court to seek interim bail in case. “But instead, Gwadar Police forcefully arrested Maulana Hidayat from court’s premises,” bar council said.
