Naseeruddin Shah has expressed his deep apprehension about rising hostility faced by Muslims in India, describing it as “Fashionable” trend. In recent conversation, Shah discussed alarming spread of unabashed Islamophobia and dangerous consequences it poses for diverse country like India. He shed light on how this propaganda is being exploited to gain votes in elections.
When asked about disinformation being propagated through certain films and shows, Shah voiced his concern about current state of affairs, saying, “Oh, certainly, these are indeed worrying times.”
Ruling party has astutely tapped into this sentiment. We often talk about secularism and democracy, so why introduce religion into everything?” Veteran actor emphasised that ruling Bharatiya Janata Party has skillfully capitalised on this sentiment by merging religion with political motives.
He questioned integrity of Election Commission, stating, “How spineless is our Election Commission, which doesn’t even dare to utter word? If Muslim leader had made statement like ‘press button after saying Allah Hu Akbar,’ there would have been massive outcry.”
This is not first time that Naseeruddin Shah has criticised Indian government. Last year, he voiced his concerns about government’s promotion of films like “Kashmir Files” instead of prioritising security and rehabilitation of Hindus in Kashmir.–Agencies
