Gilgit: PTI forward bloc leader Haji Gulbar Khan was elected as new Chief Minister of Gilgit Baltistan unopposed. Election of new Chief Minister, however was not as smooth as it was expected. Before polling process, two candidates of like-minded group along with their supporters boycotted voting.

Development cleared way for Haji Gulbar Khan to be elected as new leader of house in GB Assembly with support of PDM.

Earlier, Pakistan Democratic Movement and PPP had announced its support for candidate of forward bloc in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf for slot of Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Mminister.

Parties in PDM including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam and PPP announced that they will vote for Haji Gulbar Khan.  Yesterday, four candidates submitted their nomination papers for election of leader of House in Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly. Raja Azam Khan of Like-Minded Group, Ayub Waziri of Islami Tehreek Pakistan and Haji Gulbar Khan of PTI forward bloc were among candidates for GB Chief Minister’s slot. No member of Pakistan Democratic Movement submitted nomination papers.
