LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami amir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has vehemently rejected ‘Punjab Defamation Bill 2024’ passed by Punjab Assembly earlier this week.
Speaking to media in Mansoora, JI amir said that government wanted to forcibly control people. Earlier, delegation of Joint Action Committee called on him to express reservations of media fraternity over defamation bill. Meeting was attended by CPNE President Irshad Arif, Lahore Press Club President Arshad Ansari, Dunya Media Group Managing Director Naveed Kashif, former CPNE president Kazim Khan, senior journalist Ayaz Khan and others. “You cannot control people even in America. Government must take back defamation bill and Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act should also be abolished,” Naeem said.
JI amir said it would be huge blunder if government did not take back draconian law. “This government doesn’t represent people of Pakistan as it has been imposed on them,” he said.
