Hafiz Naeem demands decrease in power tariff, removal of taxes

KARACHI: Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi’s Chief Hafiz Naeem has demanded decrease in power tariff and removal of taxes from energy bills. Jamaat-e-Islami has called countrywide strike to protest against electricity bills on September 2, JI leader said in statement.

“Why elite being given free petrol and electricity, their large vehicles run three kilometres in litre. They are getting huge salaries of one million, officers’ expenditures are required to be curtailed,” Hafiz Naeem said.

“House using fan and three bulbs being issued 8,000 rupees power bills, where people to having minimal salaries and wages,” JI leader questioned.

“No trader wants shutdown of businesses or industries, all traders and other citizens will voluntarily observe strike,” he said. “We will stage sit-in outside Governor House in next phase of protest,” JI leader said.

Hafiz Naeem said that JI will step up its protest and will hold meetings in streets, neighbourhoods and masajid to protest. “We will hold big protest of women on August 31,” he said.

“People are killing their children and committing suicides,” he said. “We want decrease in power price and total removal of taxes from electricity bills,” he added.
