KARACHI: Unidentified gunmen opened fire on vehicle of Dr Samreen Hussain Vice-Chancellor of Dawood University of Engineering and Technology in Orangi Town.

Dr Samreen, wife of senior Pakistan Peoples’ Party leader Dr Asim Hussain, remained unharmed in attack, as did her staff. Incident occurred in Orangi Town’s Sector 11 during ceremony at girls’ college marking Pakistan’s Independence Day. Dr Samreen was attending event when assailants fired two shots at her vehicle parked inside college premises. Gunmen fled scene immediately after attack. SSP West Hafeez Bugti confirmed incident, stating that initial investigations indicate attack was not related to street crime but rather something more significant. Witnesses reported that assailants arrived in white car, with one of them entering college grounds and firing at Vice-Chancellor’s vehicle. Dr Samreen later recounted that college staff swiftly moved her to safety after shots were fired. Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar has taken notice of attack and demanded detailed report from DIG West. He emphasised need for a stronger, coordinated security plan for high-profile individuals and ordered swift arrest of those responsible for attack.
