KARACHI: Supreme Court (SC) Karachi Registry has issued notice to ex-Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah on contempt of court petition in Gujjar Nullah implementation case.

Contempt of court petition against Murad Ali Shah on non-payment of compensation to affectees of Gujjar Nullah and other nullahs came up for hearing before SC Karachi Registry.

Faisal Siddiqui advocate for petitioner told court that court ordered for rehabilitation of affectees. Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar inquired why contempt of court plea has been filed so late. Counsel for petitioner told court petition has been filed 2 years late. Court had given time for two years, therefore petition has been filed two years late. Rehabilitation work for not single affectee has been done so far.

Counsel for petitioner said court had ordered Sindh government to file monthly report in this regard. Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar inquired did Sindh government file monthly report. Now situation has changed. Caretaker Chief Minister has come. Time already given has expired. This matter has become serious.

Counsel for petitioner told that only two cheques have been given to affectees and nothing more than this has been given. Court remarked those are facing difficulties from whom homes have been got vacated. What we will do by sending Chief Minister to jail. We want implementation and you too. We too issue order to such people from whom we could get something.

Court maintained Murad Ali Shah can say tomorrow he remains no more Chief Minister. He can say during his tenure he tried his best but it could not be implemented.

We will seek reply from respective respondents when care taker government comes. Court issuing notice to Chief Secretary Sindh and Commissioner Karachi summoned them today. Court summoned Advocate General Sindh and adjourned hearing of case for today.
