Govt’s top priority to promote film industry: Info Minister

ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb said government’s top priority is promotion of country’s film industry. Addressing MoU signing ceremony between Fatimah Jinnah Women University and Ministry of Information and Broadcasting here, Marriyum however regretted that unfortunately, film industry in Pakistan has been facing tough circumstances in past.
Minister said Pakistan’s film industry has started growing since last decade. She said PML-N government, during its previous tenure, formulated Film and Culture Policy for first time in history of country. Marriyum said promotion of film industry is one of primary priorities of government. She said earning through film production is free of taxes and there is no levy on import of equipment related to film production.
She added that entertainment tax in cinemas has also been waived off. She said government is working on Film Finance Fund to provide grants to young film producers. She said corporate sector has also been engaged in this regard. She offered Fatimah Jinnah Women University can utilise resources of Radio Pakistan and PTV for imparting training to its students.
