Govt to install solar panels in districts for cheaper energy: Imtiaz Shaikh

KARACHI: Sindh Energy Minister Imtiaz Ahmed Shaikh said that government decided to install solar panels in all districts of province under Sindh Solar Project. He said 200,000 units/houses would be solarised in rural and urban areas of province as part of provincial government’s major initiative to end energy crisis.
Decision to this effect was taken at meeting with delegation of World Bank headed by WB country director. Energy Minister said that it was decided that subsidy of $ 160 per unit/house in rural areas and $ 110 in urban areas would be given. “Solar plates will be installed in all districts of province with support of World Bank,” he added. During meeting, issues relating to cheap electricity and solar energy were discussed.
Imtiaz Shaikh said that in meeting with World Bank delegation, it was decided that 200,000 solar panels would be provided under project at subsidized rate. “Solar panels are being installed in 10 districts at present and it will be extended to whole of Sindh,” he added.
He said World Band delegation expressed satisfaction over pace of ongoing projects in energy sector in province. Energy Secretary Abu Bakar Madani and Sindh Solar Project Project Director Qazi Mahfooz attended meeting.
