Govt saved country from default, avers PM Shehbaz

KARACHI: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that coalition government saved country from default. Addressing an event, PM praised coalition parties. He said, “All coalition parties have cooperated with government. You [allies] are all talented people who have faced challenges country is facing.”
PM Shehbaz stated, “There is no doubt that country is bound to fulfil conditions imposed by International Monetary Fund. However, government is determined to pull country out of its crisis and put it back on track”.
He urged business community to meet in capital to formulate “Comprehensive plan”. PM Shehbaz said, “Whoever comes to power after elections will advance economic and agricultural policies”. “We have faced many challenges for last 16 months. Russia-Ukraine war has triggered global inflation,” he added. He emphasised need for comprehensive export policy and assured full support to exporters, traders, industrialists and businessmen while admitting that energy prices in Pakistan are high.
Speaking at Karachi Chamber of Commerce (KCCI) Export Trophy Awards ceremony, he acknowledged Karachi’s historical significance as gateway and home to entrepreneurs, crucial to national economy.
Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, federal ministers, provincial ministers, parliamentarians, KCCI office bearers and relevant authorities were present.
PM Sharif urged Pakistan to strive for enhanced exports by establishing industries and adopting modern techniques to compete globally.
He stressed importance of export quality competitiveness and commended exporters and industrialists for their relentless efforts to boost country’s economy. PM Sharif highlighted challenges faced by industry, urging open discussions on government facilitation rather than indulging in blame games.
He identified price of power and gas as crucial factors affecting industrial development.
With optimism, he mentioned abundance of natural resources and projected bumper crop production, particularly in cotton, reaching up to 10 million bales.
He urged shift away from rental businesses, emphasising increased production and industrial development to propel nation towards progress and prosperity.
He looked forward to these initiatives being continued by Interim and upcoming governments. PM also stressed importance of resolving Karachi’s water supply issues and appreciated success of trade community and exporters in export sector.
