Govt plans 400,000 new connections despite gas shortage

 ISLAMABAD: Despite shortage of gas in country and ban on gas connections for new domestic consumers, government has prepared plan to provide more than 400,000 new connections during next financial year.

Target of 403,050 new gas connections has been set in next financial year 2024-25. However, according to official document, no new connection has been planned in provinces of Sindh and Balochistan in new financial year. Target of 400,000 domestic, 2,800 commercial and 250 new industrial gas connections have been set for next financial year. Sui Northern Gas Company has set this target of new gas connections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including   Islamabad.  Original target for new gas connections for current fiscal year ending June 30 was set at 137,266. However, after later revision, target of new gas connections was reduced to 29,698.
