ISLAMABAD: Government decided not to make amendments in Army Act-1952 before appointment of new Army Chief. Government sources claimed “Proposals are under consideration to appoint Army Chief in future on basis of seniority like Chief Justice of Supreme Court.” No change will be made in Army Act-1952 before appointment of new Army Chief.
Neither any proposal for amendment in Army Act is under consideration nor is this matter being considered in agenda of Cabinet committee for legislation. Government will appoint Army Chief as per law and Constitution. No legislation in this matter is under consideration before this appointment. Government sources told federal government will make amendments in Army Act after consultation with coalition partners. Decision will be taken in this regard after consultation and appointment of new Army Chief. Minister for Law and Justice Ayyaz Sadiq confirmed that matter of amendments in Army Act-1952 is not on agenda at present.
