Govt approves 30pc cut in medicine prices

ISLAMABAD: Federal Cabinet approved up to 30 percent reduction in prices of 20 essential medicines, reports said. Decision was taken in meeting of Cabinet here chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Cabinet was told that PTI hiked prices of medicines by up to 700 percent during its tenure.

In a statement Health Minister Abdul Qadir Patel announced that Cabinet also approved determining prices of 54 new medicinal drugs. He said that these medicines are related to treatment of cancer and other chronic diseases. “Incumbent government is committed to providing relief to people through effective measure,” he said. He said that ensuring availability of medicines is government’s top priority.
