‘Gov Sindh lauds efforts of Olympian Islahuddin for promoting Hockey’

KARACHI: Pakistan Veterans Hockey Club (Green) won the second Mehtab Chawla Flood-Lights Ramadan Veterans Hockey Tournament, beat Karachi Fitness Club by six 6-1 in the final, Olympian Sameer Hussain was the best player of the final.Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori distributed the prizes. 

According to the details, last night in Olympian Islahuddin and Dr. Muhammad Ali Shah Hockey Academy final was one-sided. In the first two quarters of the match, the competition was equal 1-1 goal, but in the next two quarters, the experienced team scored five more goals and claimed the victory. Olympian Qamar Ibrahim, Olympian Sameer Hussain, Olympian Kashif Jawad, former international Muhammad Ali Khan, Muhammad Irfan and Syed Al Hassan scored one goal each while right-in Imran Khan scored the only goal of Karachi Fitness Club.Olympian Samir Hussain was declared the best player of the final.

Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori was the chief guest at the final match. He said in his address that the hockey game in Karachi is alive because of Olympian Islahuddin. In his academy, national sports activities continue throughout the year he dedicated his life to hockey, I am his big fan and my support for the promotion of the national game will always be with him. On this occasion, Olympian Islahuddin said that he is the Pioneer of veteran’s hockey under his captaincy, Pakistan won the World Cup twice and now he is determined to win it for the third time. He said that he will continue the mission of late Mehtab Chawla and Mehtab Chawla Hockey Tournament will be held regularly in Ramadan every year.

The Governor Sindh awarded Olympian Sameer Hussain the best player award and a prize of Rs.10,000. The sponsors and the guest of honours , Kashif Chawla, Farrukh Chawla, Asma Ali Shah  was presented with a commemorative shield by the Academy.  On this occasion, Olympian Ayaz Mehmood, coach of Pakistan Hockey Team, Secretary General of Pakistan Hockey Federation Haider Hussain, Mustafa Jameel, Vice President of Sindh Olympic Association Mahfooz ul Haq, President of Karachi Basketball Association Ghulam Muhammad, Rao Javed Iqbal, Ejaz uddin and others  were also present. Former MNA Rehan Hashmi also praised the initiative undertaken by the Islahuddin Academy for promotion of healthy activities in youth. Municple Commissioner Afaq Saeed also attended the event.
