Islamabad: PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan has urged ECP to allot reserved seats to Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC). Adding that people have given their mandate, Gohar expressed hope that ECP would give favourable decision. “These reserved seats belong to SIC, no other political party can lay claim to them,”
Addressing media outside ECP office, PTI Chairman further said that Punjab and Sindh Assembly sessions called day earlier were held against law. He said assembly sessions cannot be convened till all parties are allotted reserved seats.
PTI leader’s remarks came shortly after ECP heard party’s plea seeking allotment of reserved seats to Sunni Ittehad Council.
SIC, relatively unknown political entity, emerged as major party in National Assembly and provincial legislature of Punjab after independent candidates affiliated with PTI joined it last week.
This development occurred as result of an agreement between SIC and former ruling party, whose candidates had to contest February 8 general elections as independents due to ECP’s decision to deprive it of its election symbol in December last year.
According to Constitution, independent candidates must join political party three days after general elections.
