ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar assigned additional portfolio of Interior Ministry to interim Minister for Commerce, Industries and Production Gohar Ejaz.
“Prime Minister, in terms of rule 3(4) of Rules of Business, 1973, has been pleased to assign portfolio of Interior to [Gohar] Ejaz [...] with immediate effect,” Cabinet division’s notification read.
Development comes after now-former Interior Minister Sarfraz Bugti, citing personal reasons stepped down from post on December 13. Ejaz’s appointment comes after lobbying started for new Interior Minister following Bugti’s resignation.
Earlier, it was reported that considering current wave of terrorism in country, there is suggestion to appoint retired general or former police inspector general as new Interior Minister.
