Lahore: Pakistan Democratic Movement Chairman Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that regardless of what Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan tries including dissolution of provincial assemblies general elections will be held on time.

“It is suicide mission if Imran Khan dissolves assembly,” he said. Talking to private TV channel over rising political temperature in Punjab, he threw spanner in works by stating that PDM will not back Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi as their candidate and restore him to CM seat after he loses vote of no-confidence. He has wasted his chance to show his commitment, he stated.

“When General (retired) Qamar Javed Bajwa took off his uniform, Imran Khan suddenly became lion and levelled serious allegations against him,” he lamented. There was time, he recalled when people such as Imran couldn’t help themselves but flatter General Bajwa. “Sometime Imran Khan calls him an animal and sometimes terms him Mir Jaffar,” he said.

He said that Imran Khan had himself conceded that during his tenure, he was nothing but dummy Prime Minister and that real decisions were taken elsewhere. Gen (retd) Bajwa had reached conclusion that Imran is useless and that Punjab Chief Minister too obtained his seat by sitting in his lap. PDM Chief expressed confidence that any changes that take place in political arena of Punjab will benefit PDM.

Asked if he was being kept updated on happenings in Punjab’s political landscape, given how coalition there was not same as rainbow coalition in centre, he said that both Pakistan Peoples’ Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz were taking me into confidence over Punjab’s politics.
