PESHAWAR: Senior politician and former Information Minister Muhammad Ali Durrani said that in current situation, fresh elections are only way forward for Pakistan. In statement issued here, Durrani emphasised need for fresh elections in Pakistan. “Fresh elections are only way forward for Pakistan,” he said.

He said that current situation demands national reconciliation and dialogue. “Reconciliation has become national duty now and there should be dialogues with Parliament,” he added.

Durrani said that he decided to keep mum after 2012 and speak up for people’s rights and Constitution.

Earlier, he said that Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit is bigger challenge than proposed constitutional amends. In an exclusive conversation with private TV, he said that hosting SCO Summit meeting has been milestone for Pakistan.

“Keep all your contentious affairs including amendments in Constitution on back burner,” he advised all political forces. “Any type of tension before SCO conference cannot be in interest of Pakistan,” he said.

He said that constitutional amendments are national issue that needs long time and thorough consideration. “Which crisis would have struck if attempt had not been made to approve constitutional amendments overnight,” he asked.

He said that government is not delivering and it will not stay for long. “I am not seeing any future of incumbent setup, it is moving towards its end.” “Rulers are failing to deliver, there is no justification for their stay for many days,” Durrani observed. He said, “Shehbaz Sharif is not prime minister, he has only fastened prime ministerial badge.”
