Karachi: Second training session organised for freelance journalists of Karachi by Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists was held at a local hall. Number of freelance journalists participated in workshop both in person and online.

President Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists G M Jamali said freelance journalists face more difficulties than journalists working in mainstream media.

Safety of journalists in field is vital. “Before going to cover any event, journalists should prepare themselves according to event. During event, they should know what safety measures they need to take in case of any untoward incident. Women reporters should also take special care of their safety and need training for which PFUJ is providing them platform for training of freelance journalists with help and support of International Federation of Journalists a right based organiszation, working around world on rights of journalists.”

Senior journalist, Project Coordinator of program for freelance journalists in Sindh and Vice President of PFUJ Sheher Bano said, “Today’s, session has been held in line with 16 days of activism against gender-based violence, which kicks off November 25, International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women and runs until December 10”

Efforts to unite freelance journalists are bearing fruit and number of freelance journalists are being trained and made part of Freelance Journalists Network of Sindh.

“Promoting Labour Rights, Gender Equality and Freedom of Association in Pakistan’s Media” with collaboration of IFJ and National Endowment Fund for Democracy were held in Karachi, Thatta, Nawabshah and Hyderabad.  In Sukkur, Shikarpur and Ghotki where sessions will be held in coming days.
