FM Bilawal Bhutto to preside over ‘Women in Islam’ conference on March 8

ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will preside over conference on ‘Women in Islam’ in New York Wednesday next.
Conference is being hosted by Pakistan in its capacity as chair of OIC Council of Foreign Ministers on sidelines of 67th Session of UN Commission on Status of Women.
Objective of conference is to bridge gap between perception and reality on rights of women in Islam and celebrate experiences and successes of iconic Muslim women.
It is also aimed at establishing an annual policy dialogue to address challenges and explore opportunities to advance role of women in OIC countries.
Opening address of Foreign Minister will be followed by speeches of UN General Assembly President, Csaba Korosi; OIC Secretary General, Hissein Braham Taha, Executive Director of UN-Women, Sima Bahous and other dignitaries and representatives of OIC member States.
Foreign Minister is also expected to participate in high-level UN Security Council debate on ‘Women, Peace and Security’, sponsored by Mozambique in its capacity as Council’s President for this month.
Later, in pursuit of General Assembly landmark resolution designating 15 March as International Day to Combat Islamophobia, General Assembly President and foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto will be co-convening special high-level event to commemorate day on Friday.
