Parachinar: At least eight people including five teachers were killed in separate incidents of firing in Parachinar area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram district, police said. Upper Kurram District Police Officer Muhammad Imran told that first shooting incident took place on road near Shalozan area and second at Teri Mengal School. He said while speaking to media that one person, teacher was killed in first incident and seven in school shooting. He added that those killed at school included four teachers and three drivers.

Separately, Rescue 1122 official Syed Ghayyur Hussain told that bodies of school shooting victims were taken to district headquarters hospital, Parachinar.

DPO Imran told media that measures were being taken and negotiations being carried out with tribal leaders to bring situation back to normalcy after attacks. He said Kohat division deputy inspector general of police and commissioner had reached Parachinar after incidents, adding that security had been beefed up and routes blocked in areas. Official said probe into incidents was under way.

Earlier, Zahid Hussain, representative of Teacher Union told that they had decided to keep schools in area closed until culprits were caught. Staging protest outside Parachinar Press Club, he urged teachers across KP to close schools from today. State broadcaster Pakistan Television Corporation reported that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif condemned incidents and had sought detailed report from relevant authorities on attacks.

Separately, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said in tweet that he, too had sought report from interior secretary and assured that perpetrators would be punished.

Meanwhile, statement issued by office of KP caretaker Chief Minister Muhammad Azam Khan attributed killings to property dispute. President Arif Alvi condemned attacks, grieving killing of “On-duty teachers”. “Attack on teachers by enemies of knowledge is condemnable,” statement on Twitter quoted him as saying. He offered prayers for slain individuals and extended condolences to their heirs. In his condemnation, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari also demanded punishment for those behind attacks and an “Immediate and complete investigation of matter by police and administration”, according to statement on PPP’s twitter quoted him as saying.

Another statement said party’s co-Chairperson Asif Ali Zardari had termed “Killing of on-duty teachers” an act of “Terrorism”. Statement quoted him as saying that perpetrators of attack should be taken to task.
