First ‘Fast’ in Pakistan today

Peshawar: Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee announced that Ramadhan moon had been sighted and first of holy month would fall on Thursday (today). Announcement was made by Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad at press conference here. Announcement came after committee met at Peshawar’s Eidgah. Separate meetings of zonal and district Ruet-i-Hilal committees were also held at their respective headquarters.
During press conference, Maulana Azad said that committee received moon sighting testimonies from number of places in country, including Bahawalpur, Rahimyar Khan, Swabi, Qila Saifullah and Mardan. “Therefore, it was unanimously decided that first of Ramadhan would be on March 23,” he said.
