KARACHI: A fire reportedly broke out at Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM) former headquarters Nine Zero. However, fire was controlled by two fire brigade vehicles. According to police, cause of fire appeared to be a short circuit.
A Rangers spokesperson confirmed that fire was controlled and process of cooling was in progress. He furthered that house had been cordoned off. No casualties were reported in incident. However, a Rangers official was injured while extinguishing fire. Explosions were also reportedly heard during fire and bomb disposal squad had been summoned to determine cause of these explosions.
Police prohibited people present at scene from making footage of incident. According to sources, house was not in use. House located in Azizabad area was used by MQM in past. In 2016, party’s headquarters, Nine Zero was searched and subsequently sealed after activists of party ransacked a private television station before clashing with police, leaving at least one person dead and over half a dozen injured.
