FIA delegated more powers for stemming inflows of hate campaign, fake news

ISLAMABAD: Federal Cabinet delegated more powers for prevention of hate campaign and fake news against institutions on social media. Sources told government has delegated more powers to FIA to make it more powerful.
Cabinet has accorded approval for making more amendments in FIA act. Cabinet has approved summary through circulation. However final approval regarding amendment in FIA Act will be obtained from Parliament. Sources revealed FIA will be able to take action regarding hate material on social media after amendment is approved by Parliament. Under this law accused will be liable to seven years imprisonment. FIA will be too authorised to take action against any fake news and rumor on social media after approval of this amendment by Parliament.
Earlier only police was authorised to take action. It has been said in summary that hate material and matters for inciting people against institutions have come galore on social media. Social media is flooded with false news. Wrong news can foment rebel among personnel of state institutions. Wrong news can incite and pit any group or community against each other.
