Female journalist crushed to death under PTI’s container amid covering long march

SADHOKE: A female journalist who was covering Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) long march died after being crushed under Imran Khan’s container. It is being told deceased Sadaf Naeem was a reporter for a private news channel, Channel 5 and was covering PTI’s long march when accident occurred. PTI Chief Imran Khan also stepped off container to personally check what had happened. Her body was then rushed to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Kamoke where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.

Speaking to participants, Imran Khan said that march was supposed to move towards Kamoke, Gujranwala, today. “However, due to tragic incident, we will stop march immediately.” Khan sent his condolences to family of deceased and said that he would pray for departed soul.

Taking to Twitter, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while reacting to death of journalist, said that he was deeply saddened by death of reporter Sadaf Naeem after falling from long march container.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced financial assistance worth Rs5 million for the family of female reporter, Sadaf Naeem, who died during Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf long march. The prime minister prayed to Allah Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant courage to the bereaved family to bear the loss with fortitude.

He said Sadaf Naeem was an active reporter and was committed to her work. The prime minister directed the authorities to hand over a cheque for financial assistance to the family of the deceased journalist after immediately completing the procedure.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Pervez Elahi also extended his condolences to her family. He announced financial assistance worth Rs2.5 million for her family. The Punjab government will take full care of the family, he tweeted.
