Fed govt, NAB, others put on notice by LHC in Maryam Nawaz passport petition

LAHORE: Lahore High Court (LHC) while declaring petition from PML-N Vice President Maryam Nawaz seeking return of her passport maintainable has issued notices to all respondents including federal government and NAB and sought reply from them. A three members bench of LHC presided over by Chief Justice (CJ) Justice Amir Bhatti took up for hearing petition filed by Maryam Nawaz for return of her passport yesterday.
Amjid Pervez, counsel for Maryam Nawaz argued inquiry in respect of Chaudhry Sugar Mills was started in 2018. NAB arrested Maryam Nawaz in this case while LHC granted her bail. Maryam Nawaz deposited Rs 70 million and surrendered her passport. She was facing charges of Rs 70 million and she deposited amount in court equal to it. But four years have been elapsed and NAB has not filed reference. Amjid Pervez prayed court her passport be returned to Maryam Nawaz and court should abolish condition of surrendering passport. Islamabad High Court has also imposed no ban on her to go abroad. CJ LHC remarked questions raised in petition are worth consideration. Hearing stance of opponent side is essential. Court while issuing notices to NAB and federal government for September 27 has sought reply from them besides adjourning hearing of case.
