Islamabad: Condemnations over Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf leader Fawad Chaudhry’s arrest poured in from political analysts, journalists and activists questioning logic behind move.

Michael Kugelman regional political expert slammed government saying “If Islamabad fought inflation and debt with half as much rigor as it is fighting opposition, it would have vanquished economic crisis many moons ago”. Supreme Court Bar Association condemned arrest of former Minister. SCBA stated in notification, “Mr Fawad is member of SCBA. SCBA has strong reservations over his arrest. Handcuffing of Fawad Chaudhry is an insulting behaviour.” SCBA said, “Constitution of Pakistan guarantees fair trial and fair treatment to every individual. Reasons for arrest are unreasoning and have no legal justification.

Arrest of former Minister is clear example of abuse of power and political vendetta”. Statement added, “Tradition of suppressing voice of political opponents should end. Article 19 guarantees every citizen right to free expression. If someone has committed crime, he should be dealt with according to law.”
